Steve Volk... Fringe-ology: A Book that Serves as a Permission Slip for You to Tell Your StorySteve Volk, Author of Fringe-ology: How I Tried to Explain Away the Unexplainable - and Couldn't, on the stories so many of us hide - about ghosts, UFOs, psychic and spiritual experiences. More than 70% of Americans believe in paranormal activity. But even with a family-ghost story lurking in his own background, seasoned journalist Steve Volk has been like most of those millions of Americans— reticent to talk about his experience in polite company. Volk decided to focus his gimlet-eyed tenacity on a new beat: the world of psychics, UFOs, and things that go bump in the night. Volk introduces us to all sorts of fringe-dwellers, many of them reluctant to admit to their paranormal experiences: a NASA astronaut-turned-mystic, a world-famous psychologist who taught us about dying and then decided death may not exist at all. It turns out that these “fringe” experiences strike at the core of what it means to be human.
About Steve Volk:Steve Volk is a senior writer at Philadelphia Magazine. His work has also been published in Rolling Stone, VIBE, Men’s Health and Philadelphia Weekly. Volk has regularly covered politics, crime and media. But there is one story he has long resisted telling publicly—a family ghost story he grew up with as a child. Now he’s reconciling that part of his life with his down to Earth occupation as a journalist. The result is his book, Fringe-ology, in which he investigates the entire field of the paranormal, including ghosts, near death experiences, and UFOs as well as religious and spiritual practices like prayer, meditation and lucid dreaming.
